Golf in London news: Justin Rose to miss Johnnie Walker Championship

Thursday, 29 July 2010

London golfer Justin Rose has revealed that he will skip this year's Johnnie Walker Championship regardless of whether or not he has guaranteed his spot in the European Ryder Cup squad.

The 29-year-old said he will concentrate on his standing in the FedEx Cup if he has not sealed a place in the team by next month, but acknowledged his decision could incur the legendary wrath of captain Colin Montgomerie.

"If I get blamed for that, well, I am comfortable with my decision," he explained. "The Ryder Cup is important to me, but I'm third in the FedEx Cup standings and that's where my focus is going to be."

Montgomerie warned the continent's top stars just last month that he expects anyone relying on a wildcard pick to show support for their team-mates by making an appearance at Gleneagles.

Rose could be left hoping that the two PGA Tour wins he has earned this year will be enough to gain Monty's favour.ADNFCR-2334-ID-800007869-ADNFCR
