Golf in London news: Justin Rose aiming for Ryder Cup spot

Tuesday, 27 July 2010

London golfer Justin Rose has revealed he is eager to secure a place in Colin Montgomerie's Ryder Cup team and is prepared to postpone his 30th birthday celebrations to earn qualification.

Although the in-form Englishman has won two of his last three PGA Tour events, he is not yet guaranteed a spot in the European squad and is ready to redouble his efforts to ensure he features at the Celtic Manor golf course in October.

"Getting back on to the Ryder Cup team after making my debut two years ago is a big target and I want it nailed down as quickly as possible," he told the Sun.

Rose will participate in the Irish Open - which tees off at Killarney on Thursday - in a bid to pick up vital points and avoid being dependent on a wild card selection.

Other Ryder Cup hopefuls include fellow countryman Luke Donald and Italian Eduardo Molinari, who completed an impressive victory at the Scottish Open earlier this month.ADNFCR-2334-ID-800006032-ADNFCR
