Golf in Hertfordshire news: Ian Poulter upbeat about Ryder Cup

Monday, 26 July 2010

World number eight Ian Poulter is adamant that Colin Montgomerie's European squad can give their American rivals a tough time at the Ryder Cup later this year.

In an interview with the Daily Star, the 34-year-old claimed the continent's current crop of stars are a match for legendary figures of decades past and warned Corey Pavin to expect a fierce challenge when the teams lock horns in October.

"On paper, we'll have the strongest European team ever, especially in terms of world rankings," he said. "Colin - who I get on really well with - and his team will make sure we have everything we need and it's then up to us to bring the trophy back."

Poulter will be hoping he fares better at Celtic Manor than he did in the recent British Open, where he was involved in an unpleasant bust-up with a spectator and a steward during a disappointing performance.ADNFCR-2334-ID-800005194-ADNFCR
