Justin Rose 'needs a wild card to play at Celtic Manor'

Friday, 23 July 2010

A change in the way players are selected for competition at the Ryder Cup has meant that golfer Justin Rose may need to impress European captain Colin Montgomerie.

The new process allows captains to have more options for picking players who do not win a place automatically, but this means that 29-year-old Rose is now fighting for his place at Celtic Manor.

According to Gazette Xtra, the golfer has had two strong performances in the last three PGA Tour events, but his third place in the FedEx Cup roster is not enough to qualify him for a Ryder Cup appearance.

Montgomerie said about the decision-making process: "I've got some headaches, but I've got some good headaches. I can pick two teams here that can beat each other on any given day."

Rose recently wrote on his blog that he has been happy with his previous performances but admitted it will be a challenge to remain focused as the PGA Tour continues.ADNFCR-2334-ID-800004953-ADNFCR
