Grip is key to avoiding slice, says expert

Friday, 23 July 2010

Making sure players are using their golf equipment properly could help amateurs reduce the chances of encountering slice.

This is according to David Clay, writing for the West Side Story, who explained that the two upside-down Vs created by the hands on the club should face the right shoulder.

He pointed out that "one of the first fundamentals is to make sure you have the correct grip", adding that watching professionals on television could help clear up any confusion.

What's more, some new players forget to compensate for the thicker grip found at the top of the club - this can result in the lower hand being too tense, Mr Clay continued.

And it's not just the golf equipment that could be affecting a swing, the same expert also explained that a green could be slower in the evening after it has been watered and fertilised.

To ensure a quick chip lands on the putting green, sportsmen might want to try using a 7-iron, Mr Clay concluded. ADNFCR-2334-ID-800004946-ADNFCR
