Tuesday, 9 March 2010

Camilo Villegas has managed to win the Honda Classic tournament at Palm Beach Gardens, Florida despite playing his worst round of the week.

The Columbian had a three-shot overnight lead going into the final, in which he beat the American Anthony Kim, who had eight under par.

Villegas commented on his victory: "It's been a long week. But it has been a good one. I just loved every second of it.

"Tournaments are four rounds and I played three pretty good ones."

Now ranked the world number 12 after climbing nine places in the table, the 28-year-old finished the round with a 15-foot birdie.

Surrey golfer Paul Casey achieved a shared fourth place with Fijian Vijay Singh, each trailing a shot behind runner-up Justin Rose who took a par 64.

Villegas recently came third in the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship, finishing after the two English finalists Casey and Hertfordshire winner Ian Poulter.ADNFCR-2334-ID-19659304-ADNFCR
