SWALEC Challenge put us on the map, says Davies

Friday, 5 March 2010

The SWALEC Wales Challenge provides an opportunity for Welsh golfers to prove their talents on the national stage, according to Rhys Davies.

Davies said that the SWALEC Challenge benefits amateur golfers and allows them a vital opportunity to enter the sport.

He said: "It gave me a chance to prove myself. It was great to win and even better to win on home soil, it gave me a platform to build on and a springboard to other things."

The Welshman won the tournament last year and for Ryder Cup Wales chairman, John Jermine, it was this that marked the beginning of his professional career and propelled him into the spotlight as the ambassador for Welsh golf.

Last summer saw Davies beat Englishman James Morrison in the third hole of a sudden-death play-off to win the title.

The €150,000 (£135,576) event will return to the Wales National course at the Vale Resort in August. ADNFCR-2334-ID-19654061-ADNFCR
