Legend golf course named top tourist destination

Thursday, 4 March 2010

A golf course has been named one of the six ultimate South African tourist destinations by the Telegraph newspaper.

The Legend Golf & Safari Resort, situated in the 22,000-hectare Entabeni Safari Conservancy, features a course with an added 'Extreme 19th' three-par hole at the pinnacle of Hangklip mountain.

Its tee, which is only accessible by helicopter, overlooks a 1,400 ft drop towards the Africa-shaped green below and $1 million (£661,597) prize money will be awarded for a hole-in-one.

Speaking to ArabianBusiness.com, Legend's golf director David Riddle said: "Why I decided to build the highest golf hole in the world, I'll never know.

"There's nothing else like it. Tiger will be here before we know it."

The conservancy lies within Limpopo province, an empire built upon the gold trade stemming from the gold fields of southern Africa.

Each hole on the course has been designed by a professional golfer, including Sergio Garcia and Colin Montgomerie.
