British Golf Museum celebrates 20th anniversary

Wednesday, 3 March 2010

The British Golf Museum will celebrate its 20th anniversary this year and started the festivities at the end of last month by allowing free entry to visitors.

It was officially founded in 1990, but began as a small collection known as a cabinet of curiosities by The Royal and Ancient Golf Club (R&A) in 1864.

Situated in Scotland, it is the largest collection of golf memorabilia in Europe and has won several major awards.

Angela Howe, director of the British Golf Museum, said: "It was great to see so many enthusiastic visitors pouring through the doors last Saturday [February 27th] and we look forward to welcoming many more over the course of this celebratory year."

Scotland's famous museum, owned by the R&A, offers ground management courses and scholarship programmes providing students from across the world with financial assistance.

The objective of a ground management course is to improve the playing quality through sustainable means, "contributing to the social and natural environment," according to R&A chief executive Peter Dawson. ADNFCR-2334-ID-19649075-ADNFCR
