Gatorade becomes latest sponsor to drop Woods

Monday, 1 March 2010

US drinks manufacturer Gatorade has become the latest sponsor to drop world number one Tiger Woods.

The high-profile sponsor follows AT&T and Accenture in cutting ties with the player after Woods' admission of infidelity.

Although Gatorade wishes to distance itself from the golfer, it confirmed that it would remain in partnership with the Tiger Woods Foundation.

Gatorade spokeswoman Jennifer Schmit said: "We no longer see a role for Tiger in our marketing efforts and have ended our relationship."

Woods emerged from a 45-day period of isolation two weeks ago at a press conference, giving an apology to his friends, family and fans, before stating it would be a long time before he returned to the sport.

A survey conducted by the University of California found that Woods and his commercial partners could be cost £8 billion because of his tarnished reputation.

However, Nike recently announced that it would continue in its relationship with the star golfer.ADNFCR-2334-ID-19643356-ADNFCR
