Laura Davies wins 73rd title in New Zealand

Monday, 1 March 2010

Laura Davies has won the Pegasus New Zealand Women's Open by two shots to take her 73rd world title and her first win at Christchurch.

Davies carded four birdies without dropping a shot and ended with a four-under-par 68 and a nine-under par.

Commenting on her globe-spanning record, she said she would like to expand her horizons even further.

She said: "India and Portugal are among the few places I've been to and not won and if I get a chance to play in South Africa I'd go there."

The 46-year-old began the final round a shot behind the overnight leader Sarah Kemp and was two behind at the turn.

Kemp said that her counterpart was always the "one to beat" throughout the competition, which awarded Davies £30,195 after the co-sanctioned Ladies European Tour event.

The English golfer remarked that she hopes to continue playing and would return next year to defend her new title, claiming that her love of winning keeps her motivated.ADNFCR-2334-ID-19643361-ADNFCR
