Diana D'Alessio takes a one shot lead

Friday, 26 February 2010

American Diana D'Alessio has taken the lead at the New Zealand Women's Open in Pegasus, near Christchurch, carding a second-round 68.

At this stage she leads by one shot over Australian Sarah Kemp, who commented after the day's play that she was disappointed with her performance.

In the second round D'Alessio totalled seven birdies, a bogey and a double bogey while she tried to maintain a clear perspective.

This was something she nurtured by thinking about "fairways and greens" in an attempt to ward-off negative thoughts about her performance during the match.

Speaking about her lead, D'Alessio said: "On this course you are going to make bogeys as it is a hard course, but I made a few great par-saving putts like a 15-footer on the eighth to keep the string going."

Amateur New Zealander, 12-year-old Lydia Ko carded 73 and now stands at level par for the tournament.ADNFCR-2334-ID-19640864-ADNFCR
