Nike continues to sponsor Tiger Woods

Friday, 26 February 2010

Nike has announced that it will continue to sponsor Tiger Woods despite his indefinite break from golf.

President of the sports brand Charlie Denson told the Associated Press that it would continue to sponsor the golfer, preferring him to reconcile his personal issues before returning to the game.

Mr Denson said: "He's got issues he needs to deal with and he is dealing with them. We are looking forward to him getting back on the golf course."

Both AT&T and Accenture decided to terminate their contracts with the world number one but Nike have stated they will continue to be supportive.

Woods admitted at a press conference last Friday that he had been in rehab for the past 45 days and did not announce a date of return because he was due to take another course of therapy.

In a recent poll conducted by Sexton Hall University 69 per cent of Americans said they would support Woods if he chose to compete for the US when golf becomes an Olympic sport. ADNFCR-2334-ID-19641069-ADNFCR
