Luke Donald 'happy with performance'

Monday, 8 February 2010

English golfer Luke Donald has commented that he is pleased with his performance at the Northern Trust Open in Los Angeles, despite losing to Steve Stricker by two shots.

Donald, who grew up playing on golf courses in Hertfordshire, holed six birdies in the final round of the event, but could not catch the American.

He pointed out that he gave the winner a run for his money and suggested that he might have caught up with him if he could have hit top form with his putter.

"I hit a lot of quality shots, felt very much in control and I hit a lot of fairways, a lot of greens, gave myself a lot of good looks at birdies," remarked Donald.

The Hertfordshire golfer was gracious in defeat and claimed that Stricker was a deserved winner, who has done well to rebuild his career after falling way down in the rankings.

Last year, Donald earned just over $2 million (£1.2 million) on the PGA Tour and managed one second place finish.ADNFCR-2334-ID-19603797-ADNFCR
