Fisher reaches semi-finals at World Match Play

Friday, 30 October 2009

Surrey golfer Ross Fisher is set to take on Angel Cabrera in the last four of the Volvo World Match Play Championship in Spain on Saturday (October 31st).

The Englishman booked his place in the last four at Finca Cortesin Golf Club in Casares with a narrow victory over Jeev Milkha Singh.

Fisher defeated the Indian player by one hole to top his group at the event, which is taking place in Spain for the first time after moving from Wentworth.

"The Race to Dubai is huge and I'm a bit behind so it's great for me to get into the semis," said Fisher, who could move up to fourth in the European Tour money list by winning this weekend.

Anthony Kim is set to take on Australia's Robert Allenby in the other semi-final after producing a spectacular shot at the final hole of his encounter with Scott Strange.

The American hit a 274-yard three-wood to within four feet of the pin to win the match and clinch his place in the last four.
