About Us

Crown Golf is the largest owner/operated group in Europe.  We have 30 golf properties, totalling 50 courses.  The group is spread across England with a concentration of courses around London and the Home Counties.

Crown Golf is formed of 19 Membership based proprietary golf clubs and a separate division of Pay and Play golf courses.  The premier club in the group is St Mellion International Resort based in Cornwall and following a recent £20m re-development is now fully re-opened and the host venue for The English Open in 2011 for a minimum of 3 years.

The Crown Golf group also plays host to the Crown Golf Academy network based at 13 clubs and expected to grow over the coming years.  The Academies are excellent venues to learn the great game of golf, provide fantastic instruction for Juniors and Adults alike and are used as custom fitting centres when purchasing golf equipment.

Crown Golf are owned by The Bennelong Group, a privately owned funds management and private equity business founded by Jeff Chapman and the Chapman family in 2000.  Following a period of organic growth in 2000-2004, Crown Golf then acquired the former American Golf group based in the UK which quadrupled the size of the business.  This acquisition happened at the end of 2004 and since then Merrist Wood, The Bristol and Pine Ridge have been added.

The Golf Foundation

Crown Golf partner The Golf Foundation to help deliver our Crown Golf Junior Academies.  The Golf Foundation is a charity committed to the sporting and social development of young people through golf. ‘Skills for Life’ is a principle that underpins the Golf Foundation’s work and links directly to the organisation’s mission statement. It is based on the belief that children and young people are able to develop playing skills and personal skills through the Foundation’s development initiatives, which will benefit them for the rest of their lives.

GolfMark Accreditation

Crown Golf has committed to gain the GolfMark accreditation at all of its facilities by end of 2010.  GolfMark is a national scheme that identifies and recognises junior and beginner friendly golf facilities.  The three key areas within the golf club which are assessed are: 

• Coaching & Playing
• Club Environment (including sports equity & ethics)
• Child Protection & Duty of Care

All Crown Golf clubs are working towards GolfMark with many already achieving the accreditation.
